Systems Designer

Harmonix is looking for a Systems Designer to join us in creating innovative music games. This is an opportunity to join the Harmonix team and contribute to our next generation of super rad and groundbreaking music game experiences.


  • Work with the Creative Lead and Lead Designer to translate the overall game vision into a coherent, shippable design that aligns with project goals.
  • Provide fully and carefully considered systematic implementation of reward mechanisms and mechanics.
  • Guide the tuning and pacing of the experience from start to finish.
  • Work with artists, engineers, and designers to implement, iterate, and tune the game, working through design revisions as needed.
  • Work with the production team to set priorities for prototyping, iteration and content creation, ensuring the central “fun-focus” of the creative vision is pursued above all else.
  • Work with the production team to maintain solid documentation and organization of design vision.
  • Establish and maintain a collaborative design environment that includes all team members.


  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience designing games, 4 years preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 shipped titles.
  • Must have intimate knowledge of game design, theory, and execution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven track record in a deeply collaborative design environment.
  • Familiarity with and passion for music games.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies, e.g. scrum, preferred.
  • Experience programming or scripting game prototypes a plus.
  • Passionate about music -- musicians preferred!
